2019: Women Goal Setting Event

With 2019 around the corner, we start expressing strong resolutions in the hopes of starting the new year on the right foot.

Life kicks in, overtime happens, sh*t happens and the winter blues set in. Happens to everyone.

But with these new year work-life balance goals in mind do you often find yourself at a brick wall unsure how to plan and unsure how to act? Or, you do well for a week, and then you crumble?

Anima Mea presents the 2019 work-life balance event where together we will set our goals, checkout our current reality, look at our options and work on what we realistically can do. Sounds daunting? Well it isn’t; together we will co-create. Together we will work on creating:
* Setting those work limitations
* Meal prepping and exercise goals
* Time limitations and scheduling
* Me time- what is that?
* Letting go of work when you are home, and vice versa.

Together, we will create plans to empower ourselves to make the changes that we want to make.

Getting to Know Myself Better

Nothing beats the sucker punch of losing your job. The term “reorg” never bothered me so much till then. Sure, I’ve fired a few people but once it happens to you, you never experience it the same way. That long taxi drive home, the tears, the questions, the concerning texts from friends and family, and the resentment all came my way; but what I did after really surprised me and started giving me the confidence to do better.

After being lazy my whole life, and always thin (approaching thirty makes this questionable) , I never realized till then how unhealthy I was. So to keep my working schedule alive, I would mimic a work day and everyday I would wake up early and go to the gym for an hour and a half. Sure, I got a gym program and the bodily pain was unbearable. But for me to gain my confidence I had to do it. I also paired my exercise with an clean eating regime; and boy did I see changes. I also signed up for my first 5K, and I did it faster than I anticipated (28.4 minutes)!

I also signed up for my order exam, again. Yes, you won’t hear me say this often, but I failed my HR order exam 4 times before passing it this final time. I wrote the exam in May and found out the good news in June. Everyday after the gym, I would study till about 4:00 pm. I knew I had to keep my work structure so when I went back to work my body wouldn’t be in complete shock.

Also, I signed up for the Professional and Personal Coaching Program at a local university. I realized that if I do not take the leap and apply I won’t want to do it once I started working. This course always interested me, because it would be an excellent lateral shift into performance, professional and wellness coaching that interests me so much.

I even realized I had to become more efficient. I use to get home, watch TV, eat peanut butter out of the jar (yumbang) and vegetate. Soon after loosing my job I started preparing my clothes in advance, meal prepping, multitasking and making my priorities number one so I can turn my priorities into healthy habits.

This experience helped me become more self-aware and more confident. I know I am not at my 100% confidence level but I am a work in progress and I respect that. By keeping busy, and setting myself goals helped me deal with my situation and helped me get to know myself better. Sure getting terminated is always a shock, but it is up to us to make the situation better and constantly improve so we can become our best selves.

After that experience I can confirm that being well and living a healthy lifestyle can make us more confident and more self aware. This is the best feeling of all especially after dealing with a life changing event. Be like a lotus flower; believe in the mud and and you’ll grow into something spectacular.

Goal Setting

I hear a lot of people saying they’re life coaches on Instagram, Facebook and even twitter; flashing their abs, showing their perfect life. They are telling you how to act, how to react, and how to live. Has it ever occurred to you that you, yourself, know the answers to your questions? Rather than by attempting to mimic someone on social media. By seeing a Coach or by asking yourself questions and probing for the answers that you don’t want to hear you can come to your own conclusions. A Coach and Client relationship is a co-created relationship; built and continually building together.

My framework is quite simple:

  1. What do you want to do and why?
  2. What is your current state and your ideal future?
  3. What is your action plan?

When someone tells me they want to lose weight- OK cool but why? Why do you want to lose weight? The Client needs to assess for example, if it is because they do not feel comfortable in their skin, or because they want to run a marathon? You need to find the meaning behind it, you need to identify the why behind your topic. If you have a strong topic and metatopic then your content will be much more easily organized. So let me ask again: WHY DO YOU WANT TO RUN A MARATHON? – personal goal, ok check!

So then great, we have a golden nugget, you want to run marathon? When is your marathon? What do you have to do to get there? Do you have running knowledge? Yes or no? Hmm if you don’t have any knowledge, where can you get help? Where can you get a training plan? What about nutrition? This is where the ideas start flowing, where the juice gets made. #winning.

Now for the action plan, what do you need to do to achieve your goal of running marathon? This section cannot be all rainbows and unicorns, we need to be realistic. Well if my client is telling me they haven’t walked in a gym in 5 months, well what are you going to do with that? Well I have a personal trainer as a friend! OK awesome, now will you contact him? YASS TRAINING PLAN, OK, great that’s what I love to hear, in this part of the framework you need to do be as proactive as possible. If not, are you really, truly into this goal? This even might be a good time to ask if they even have a friend who ran a marathon so they can be a point of contact? Who will hold you accountable?

All throughout this process, I cannot stress enough to have a tribe who supports you, have positive people around you who have your back. Forget the friends with negative vibes, forget the fitspo influencers you follow on the gram, this your thing, so do it your way. Your goals and actions towards them are your way of leading a more positive life, it may not be easy, you may stumble, but the end result has to be pronounced, making yourself happy. You need to be true to yourself- and your goals.
